A Date with Science!

Just wanted to share a little date story with you all.  Adam planned a wonderful date for us on the 17th.  The first stop on our date was at the Exploration Place: Science Center in old town Wichita.  We hadn’t been to the science center yet, so we used our GPS to get there.  As we were nearing our destination the GPS instructed us to turn on to a road that was closed off by police cars and road blocks.  Since we were unfamiliar with this part of Wichita we did our best navigate the streets to get to the Science Center.
Each route we took we were stuck, and at one point we had to come to a complete stop because of traffic.  Then we saw what the traffic was about.  The Wichita St. Patrick’s Day Parade was in full swing and we were right in the middle of it, oops!  We were so close to the Science Center and yet so far away.  Adam was determined to get to the center, so we kept trucking along :)

The roads were NOT clearly blocked or marked off for the parade which caused us to be in the thick of it, plus, the police officer trying to direct us away from the parade was NOT helpful at all.  He basically wanted us to run right into traffic to get us out of the way.  We actually caused the parade to stop for us are we drove right through it.

Yup, right in the thick of it!

We ended getting a “front row” seat to the parade because we were basically in it!  The whole ordeal so ridiculous we just had to laugh and take a few pictures!
We finally arrived at the Science center and it was so worth interrupting a parade to get there :P  We had a blast!  We put our Mystery Case File Skills to work as we went through a Geocache/ GPS guided maze and solved puzzles.

YAY! A day of Science!

We had to gather clues and solve a puzzle to gain access

Checking our answers.....We got it Right!

There was also an area dedicated to aviation so we took ride in a Spirit Aerosystem’s flight simulator.  We also saw 1950’s Kansas in miniature form complete with working training and Santa Claus!  The Science center was a lot of fun and definitely family friendly, I hope we can take our families there one day.

Just hanging out with the aviation greats

Santa? In an outhouse?

The Exploration place was also near the famous monument called the Keeper of the Plains which was erected in 1974 and soon became a symbol of Wichita and the Native American Tribes who resided in this area.  So we took a gander at the monument too.

Preparing for the Hunger Games, Katniss got nothing on me! :P

We ended the day with a little shopping and some great pizza, fish & chips and mint chocolate ice cream!  All in all in was eventful day and wonderful date!  I hope everyone had a Happy St. Patrick’s Day 2012
